The Village of Old Westbury made the necessary preparations for the Northern Trust, a PGA golf tournament that was held at Glen Oaks Club on August 22-27. This is the first time the golf course was the site of a PGA Tour event. The Island Now spoke to Village Administrator Brian Ridgway about the Village preparing for the incoming golfers and spectators. “This is very, very high exposure for the Village of Old Westbury and our community, and the [police] chief and his department have spent a lot of prep time coordinating with the various groups that will be basically running this tournament,” he said.
The Island Now recently reported on the Village of Old Westbury hearing a proposal to install 22 cell nodes throughout the Village. Half of the nodes would be installed on existing poles, from 29 to 34 feet tall, while another half would be installed on new poles which would be 45 feet tall. While some say this would solve residents’ complaints about getting little or no service from their cell phones, others were concerned about the height of the new poles and the possible health hazards from these nodes.
The Westbury Times featured an article on the Farmers Market, which is being held at Village Hall on August 26, September 23 and September 30. The produce that is sold there is provided by local resident Peter Paniccia. In the article, Trustee Leslie Fastenberg is quoted as saying, “It’s an opportunity to reimagine how we interact with one another.”
